Security authorities in the state of Baja, California, reported the arrest of five members of Los Rusos, the armed branch of the Sinaloa Cartel (Los Mayos) that has its stronghold in Mexicali.
According to the State Secretariat of Citizen Security of Baja California (SSCBC), during a patrol for prevention and surveillance in coordination with elements of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) in the area of Ejido Guadalupe Victoria in the Mexicali Valley on Thursday, July 4th, a person was seen walking down the street with a long weapon.
After signaling him to stop and asking him to throw his gun to the ground, the individual ignored and ran until reaching a residence located on Sixth Street between Nicolás Bravo Street and Ignacio Allende Street.
For this reason, according to the state security agency and considering that the individual was committing a crime in flagrante delicto, “state agents entered the property where they managed to arrest him, also finding four other armed individuals inside the house who were also apprehended.”

The authorities indicated that the detained individuals were identified as Juan Alfonso “N”, 20 years old; Jose Alejandro “N”, 23 years old; Isaac Alberto “N”, 24 years old; Jonathan “N”, 19 years old; and Daniel “N”, 18 years old, all of whom are originally from Mexicali, Baja California.
At the scene, a firearm was able to be secured: a 5.56 x 45 caliber rifle with a black cloth rifle case and a loaded magazine with 12 usable cartridges; a 9 x 19 caliber Glock pistol with a loaded magazine containing 6 .9 caliber cartridges; a .9 caliber Magnum pistol with an unloaded magazine; a .9 caliber pistol with a loaded magazine containing four usable cartridges.
According to the authorities, one of the detainees also carried a fanny pack, in which he kept 272 packages containing a white and granular substance, very similar to methamphetamine, with an approximate weight of 187 grams.
“At the property where the five subjects were arrested, there were several vehicles and a bulletproof vest with rifle-type weapon chargers,” mentioned the SSCBC, ensuring that a “Technical Investigation Order” was requested so the evidence was placed under the custody of the State Force for Public Safety and the elements of the Sedena (Mexican Army).

The Rusos, or Russians, are a criminal cell linked to the faction of Ismael El Mayo Zambada in the Sinaloa Cartel. This armed branch has been a topic of conversation in recent days after a video shows the moment in which several vehicles pass through a housing development in Baja, California.
Among the units of the Municipal Police of Mexicali, and according to initial reports, Josué Medina Fernández, also known as “El Pitufo” was traveling in a truck. He is identified as a generator of violence for the group “Los Rusos.”
“In this video, we can observe some important things; it’s 3:34 in the morning. We can see that 16 vehicles of different models enter; six are private, and the seventh is a unit from the Municipal Public Security Department. Afterward, seven more vehicles enter, followed by a RAM police car from the Public Security Department,” said Mexicali’s Municipal Police Chief, Pedro Ariel Mendivil, during a press conference on June 19th.
