One and a half months after testifying in defense of Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, known as ‘Don Rodo,’ two Municipal Police officers from Autlán de Navarro remain in their positions, according to journalist Elizabeth Ibal for El Occidental.
Commissioner Jorge Daniel Rentería Barragán stated that the police were unaware of the National Guard’s April 21st operation, which captured Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes’ brother, ‘El Mencho,’ leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). “The officers were merely responding to a phone call […] We did not know of it,” he said.
This contradicts the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), which claimed the Municipal Police knew about the operation and suggested the agents’ complaint against the military could indicate collusion with the criminal leader.

“That complicit and enabling behavior was confirmed when said municipal police officers were presented as witnesses by the defendant’s defense during the corresponding hearing of linked evidence,” added the FGR in a statement.
The prosecution announced plans to file complaints against the police officers whose testimonies led Judge Rogelio León Díaz Villarreal to order the release of ‘Don Rodo.’ Despite this, the officers remain in their positions.
According to the municipal police director, the officers testified on their day off. “The lawyers requested their testimony due to irregularities in the procedure. On their days off, officers can do as they wish,” Rentería told El Occidental.
Despite the Attorney General’s Office warning on April 29th, no investigations have been initiated against the officers. ‘Don Rodo’ was released from the Altiplano maximum security prison on April 30th, as the FGR failed to provide strong evidence for charges of health crimes and possession of military-grade weapons.
