On the morning of June 10th, motorists on the highway between Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Ocozocoautla, Chiapas, alerted authorities to a hanging corpse on a bridge. Around 6 a.m., police received the first reports and state agents inspected the scene. They found a body wrapped in plastic bags, hanging from the bridge, with a threatening message signed by the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel (CCyG).
According to information distributed in local media, the cardboard placed next to the victim’s body included the following text:
“This will happen to the hawks Francisco Abadía, Gabriela Zepeda Soto, and Roberto Jair Hernández Terán and the young lady ‘La Güerita’ or ‘El Pulsera’ alias ‘La Tuerca’. The song is ending for them and they were warned beforehand that everything they have stolen from the cartel will not be enough to face the Cartel of Chiapas and Guatemala. Sincerely, CCyG.”
Gabriela Zepeda Soto is the director of the Secretariat of Public Safety and Citizen Protection (SSyPC) in Chiapas. Francisco Javier Orantes Abadía, aka ‘Panchito’, is the undersecretary, and Roberto Jair Hernández Terán has been the State Border Police commissioner since June 2016.
The message referenced Jesús Esteban Machado Meza, aka ‘El Güero Pulseras’ or ‘La Tuerca’, a key operator for the Sinaloa Cartel in Chiapas under Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada.
To secure the highway and remove the body, support from the Municipal Police, National Guard, and Mexican Army was requested, leading to a coordinated operation and traffic redirection. Forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) soon arrived to gather evidence and transport the body to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
This marks the second incident in 2024 where a corpse was left on the Tuxtla Gutiérrez-Ocozocoautla highway. On January 15, a similar discovery included threats against state security officials for alleged ties to the Sinaloa Cartel.
