Pink Cocaine Reaches The Streets Of Chihuahua And Alerts Authorities

In the fourth month of the current year, Chihuahua security authorities secured around 3.8 million pesos in seizures of illicit substances, including heroin, marijuana, and fentanyl.

In a press conference, the head of the state’s Public Security Secretariat (SSP), Gilberto Loya Chávez, reported that in the last four weeks, 2.1 kilograms of crystal (equivalent to 10,755 doses), 8.6 kilograms of marijuana, and 31,000 units of fentanyl have been seized.

In addition, 3.6 kilograms of cocaine were intercepted, equivalent to more than seven thousand doses with an estimated value of 1.5 million pesos. During these operations, state police officers seized a drug that, although not new, had not been detected in the state of Chihuahua before.

This is about pink cocaine, also known as “tusi”, which has gained popularity among consumers due to its psychoactive effects and the “eye-catching” color of the substance.

Without mentioning a specific date or place, Loya Chávez announced a seizure of 53 grams of pink cocaine in Chihuahua. Despite the low amount, the security secretary stated that it was an “unusual” action, since this type of drug had not been found in the state before.

“We have also secured something that is very unusual because we had not seen it in this state of the country: 53 grams of pink cocaine or cocaine known as tusi. It is a cocaine that is mixed with synthetic drugs and that generate a greater addiction to those who consume it,” said Chávez on Monday morning.

The name of this substance comes from the component 2-CB, which was synthesized in 974 by the chemist Alexander Shulgin and whose psychedelic effects are similar to LSD and MDMA. However, this type of cocaine is often mixed with other drugs such as ketamine to enhance its effects, which can be extremely dangerous for the health of consumers.

That is why the “tusi” (also known as “tusi bi”) is considered a “cocktail” of synthetic drugs that contain stimulants and depressant effects. Despite its harmful risk, it has gained popularity among the new generations and is usually consumed in nightclubs and raves.

An example of the above is the song “Lady Gaga”, performed by Peso Pluma, Gabito Ballesteros, and Junior H, considered some of the greatest exponents of “corridos tumbados”. In this composition, there is an explicit reference to “pink cocaine”.

“Dom Perignon Lady Gaga, glasses on her face, washed face, triple washed and a bandit that calls me,” can be heard at the beginning of the composition, which has accumulated over 230 million views on YouTube.

In the face of the commercialization of pink cocaine in Mexico, authorities from the border state of Baja California have ruled out its sale in that region; however, it has been detected in tourist destinations in the south of the country, such as Playa del Carmen.
