Mexican Army elements dismantled a narco-camp in the state of Michoacán linked to one of the criminal organizations with the most significant operating margin in the country: the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The actions took place in the municipality of Uruapan, where an operation was deployed in the locality of Matanguarán along with personnel from the National Guard (GN). When the authorities were in a wooded area of said locality, they noticed the installation of a camp used by alleged criminals.
Due to the above, the officers inspected the clandestine settlement. They located high-caliber weapons and tactical equipment, including vests marked with the initials “CJNG”, as seen in the images shared by the authorities.
In that sense, it is presumed that the narco-camp was set up by the organization led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as ‘El Mencho’, a drug trafficker from the old school originally from Michoacán.

Among the secured arsenal, a Barrett .50 caliber rifle was found, a powerful military weapon capable of shooting down aircraft and penetrating armored structures, as was demonstrated on September 6, 2016, in La Huacana, Michoacán, where a group of hitmen shot down a police helicopter.
Also, eleven assault rifles like the AR-15 and AK-47 were seized, along with 2,500 rounds of ammunition, 50 chargers, a grenade launcher attachment, and four vehicles that had been reported stolen. As for illicit substances, marijuana packages were found.
During these actions, no detained individuals were reported, as when the authorities deployed the security operation, the alleged members of the CJNG were alerted and managed to flee the scene, according to reports from LatinUs.
The arsenal and secured artifacts were left at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR) to be included in the corresponding investigation file.

The municipality of Uruapan is a crucial location for drug trafficking groups’ operations, which has sparked a dispute among different factions trying to take control of the territory.
According to the most recent report from AC Consultores on the presence of organized crime in Mexico, at least six criminal groups are operating in Uruapan: CJNG, La Familia Michoacana, Los Viagras, Los Caballeros Templarios, Pueblos Unidos, and Brazo de Oro.
The “Four Letters Cartel” – also known as the organization led by ‘El Mencho’ – has the most significant territorial expansion in all of Mexico, as its illicit businesses extend to 28 of the 32 states of the Republic.
The main stronghold of the CJNG is located in Jalisco. Still, it also operates in Aguascalientes, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Colima, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Michoacán, Morelos, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, Veracruz, Yucatán and Zacatecas.
The only entities where this cartel has no presence are Sinaloa, Durango, Coahuila, and Campeche, according to the report by AC Consultants, which was developed based on news reports and information from the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena).
The second largest criminal organization is the Sinaloa Cartel, which operates in Aguascalientes, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Coahuila, Colima, Durango, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Jalisco, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco, Veracruz, Yucatán and Zacatecas.
