The Attorney General’s Office of Guanajuato reported that it made a significant seizure of military weaponry, which it called an “unprecedented seizure”, where it managed to confiscate 143 firearms in a single operation in the municipality of San Luis de la Paz.
According to ministerial authorities, in the operation coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security and the Mexican Army, ammunition and useful magazines, drugs, cash, vehicles, and four people were detained: two men and two women.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Guanajuato specified that the seizure was made thanks to the research work and intelligence operations, after the arsenal was tracked and located. As a result, after receiving a search warrant, criminal investigation agents entered the property which details of the neighborhood or street were not provided.
The ministerial authorities had evidence that the property was being used for the development of various criminal activities.
“Upon entering, the agents neutralized all sources of danger and detained two men identified as José Antonio “N” and Brandon Ariel “N” and two women named Gema Berenice “N” and Fernanda Joselyn “N”,” details the statement from the Prosecutor’s Office, which also mentions that they were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, who will handle the corresponding investigative file.”
Meanwhile, investigations continue to determine if the seized weapons and other objects may be related to a criminal event.

The party’s decision comes after these unfortunate incidents and was communicated by Mario Delgado on behalf of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, presidential candidate for Morena.
The measure is taken in response to the increasing violence that has affected political candidates in Guanajuato, a state that until November 2023, held the second position in the country for attacks on politicians, according to data from the organization Data Cívica. In this state, numerous violent acts against aspiring public officials have been documented, including murders, attacks, and kidnappings, with a low number of cases resolved by authorities, potentially perpetuating the cycle of violence.
Guanajuato is an area of intense activity by organized crime groups, including the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), which have contributed to the complexity of the security situation in the state. The presence of these groups has created an atmosphere of risk and fear, hindering free political and electoral participation. The state has been identified as one of the highest at risk for intervention by organized crime in electoral processes by Integralia Consultores, due to these factors.
Political violence in Guanajuato is not a new phenomenon, and several incidents have been reported in recent years that highlight the danger faced by politicians in the region. This context of insecurity has led the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) to seek exceptional measures to guarantee the safety of its candidates, a decision that reflects the seriousness of the situation and the need to protect the democratic process in the country.
