Landmine Destroys Truck And Kills Three In Michoacán

Three people lost their lives in Tumbiscatío, Michoacán, due to the explosion of a homemade explosive device.

The incident occurred on March 5th on the road that leads from Tumbiscatío to Las Cruces, specifically near the Tabanero ranch. The Civil Guard and the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) found an overturned vehicle and the dismembered bodies of the victims.

According to details provided by security sources, upon arriving at the mentioned site, they confirmed the finding of the red flatbed truck and the mortal remains of three individuals.

The initial analysis suggests that the detonation of an artisanal mine was the direct cause of the unfortunate outcome. The area was cordoned off, and the local prosecutor’s office was notified to begin relevant investigations and determine the exact circumstances behind the incident.

The identity of the deceased is kept confidential until their complete identification and notification to their families is possible.

This event highlights the concerning presence of explosive devices in civilian areas and the urgency of strengthening security and surveillance measures in susceptible regions. The community of Tumbiscatío and surrounding areas remain on high alert for possible similar threats and the impact on local security.

Unofficial reports state that the “narco mines” are made by Colombians and Venezuelans working for the criminal group Los Caballeros Templarios, who are, in turn, allies of the Tepalcatepec Cartel, one of the primary sources of violence in the region.

It is worth mentioning that Tumbiscatío is located in the Tierra Caliente region of Michoacán and was one of the strongholds of the drug trafficker Servando Gómez Martínez, alias ‘La Tuta,’ leader of the Knights Templar.

These events add to those that took place last Thursday, February 29, when authorities in Michoacán reported the explosion of another mine on the border between the municipalities of Coalcomán and Tepalcatepec, leaving a toll of four soldiers dead and nine others injured.

According to Mexican authorities, members of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) were informed about the existence of a “narco-camp” located in the Tierra Caliente, so a command was deployed to the area.

“As far as they could go, they did it in vehicles and then walked, but on the way back, they did not take the same path, but another, and there was a trap in the bushes, explosives,” said Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

According to reports, the military unit was on a dirt road in the mountain region when armed individuals began shooting at them. The attackers used drones and explosives.

“They came together, and right there, a military officer died. Afterward, the wounded were attended to, but they could not be saved. Very unfortunate; I send my condolences to their families, who are being taken care of. This is what the Army, Navy, National Guard, and Armed Forces have to face,” said López Obrador.

State authorities have recognized on several occasions the presence of at least 14 drug trafficking groups vying for control of illicit activities in the state, such as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the Knights Templar, the Viagras, the Whites of Troy, the Zicuirán Cartel, the Tepalcatepec Cartel, and La Familia Michoacana, among others.
