Dismantling Of Narcocamps In Michoacán And Seizure Of Several Kilos Of Marijuana.

Elements of the National Guard located and dismantled places that were possibly used by members of organized crime and also seized several kilograms of possible marijuana in Michoacán. In total, two camps were identified by the uniformed personnel.

The actions were reported by the authorities on Wednesday, February 28th, and were carried out in conjunction with the Mexican Army and the state Civil Guard. In addition to the 100 kilograms of the plant, another kilogram of seeds was also found.

In the images shared by the authorities, it can be seen that the substances and places were in an area surrounded by trees. Specifically, the discovery was made in the town of Agua Colorada, located in the municipality of Coalcomán. The uniformed officers went to this place after receiving information that the camps were allegedly used as possible points to monitor the movements of security forces.

In addition, the National Guard’s report detailed that the places were made with makeshift structures composed of tarps, plastics, pipes, and wood.

The security forces carried out a thorough inspection of the places where the plastic bags containing the green and dry grass, as well as the seeds, were found. Once the sites were found, the Public Ministry of the entity was notified for them to carry out the relevant investigations. In addition, the material found was destroyed through the incineration method, as can be seen in another shared image by the authorities.

“With the corresponding security measures, the elements established an operation to locate the occupants in the surroundings of both camps, without obtaining positive results,” the institution’s statement reads.

Although security personnel tried to locate the individuals responsible for the camps, no arrests were reported and it is also not known which criminal group they would be linked to.

The assurance of the camps was reported just one day after Miguel Ángel Zavala, who was seeking to be mayor of the state of Michoacan on behalf of the party National Regeneration Movement (Morena), was attacked with firearms in Maravatío.

The man, who was a gynecologist by profession, was shot and attacked inside his car by individuals who fled the scene after killing him.

In addition to the above, the murder of Armando Pérez, who was also shot and was related to the National Action Party (PAN). His death was reported just a few hours after the death of his political rival from Morena. It is worth noting that Pérez was also attacked in Maravatío.

Faced with this scenario, other aspiring public officials decided to abandon their political aspirations following the violent events. On February 28, the head of the Attorney General’s Office of Michoacán, Adrián López Solís, commented in a meeting with the media that the perpetrators of the attacks would be criminal groups.

Likewise, he assured that authorities already have progressed in the case of the double homicide of the men who were seeking public office and that the main line of investigation is the interference of criminal groups.
