After an operation deployed in three townships of Mexico City (CDMX), local authorities managed to apprehend a criminal leader and 10 of his enforcers who are allegedly involved in drug trafficking, extortions, and property seizures.
Among the detainees is José Alberto “N”, also known as ‘El Pícoro’, who has been identified as the leader of a criminal cell related to the Tláhuac Cartel. This individual was arrested on Saturday, February 17, in the Agrícola Oriental neighborhood, located in the Iztacalco municipality, according to the National Register of Detentions.
In that same neighborhood, elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) arrested a 22-year-old woman. They seized a short firearm, 19 ammunition cartridges, a bag containing a drug known as crystal, as well as 690 packages of cocaine.
At the same time, the authorities of the capital executed five more raids in the municipalities of Tláhuac and Xochimilco, where they detained nine people who are presumed to be part of the same criminal cell led by ‘El Pícoro’.

In the La Conchita, Miguel Hidalgo, and Agrícola Metropolitana neighborhoods (in the Tláhuac delegation), three men aged 67, 53, and 21 were arrested, along with five women aged 64, 45, 36, 26, and 24, whose identities were not disclosed.
In that same area, over 1300 doses of cocaine, 18 bags of marijuana, firearms, a dozen cell phones, and a pair of vehicles were seized.
Meanwhile, in the Nochicala neighborhood of Xochimilco, a 43-year-old man was arrested, and 606 doses of cocaine were seized.
These multiple arrests stemmed from a series of citizen complaints that alerted the presence of a group of individuals engaged in the theft of properties, drug sales, extortion, and homicides in the municipality of Tláhuac.

The properties that were searched (including a gym located in Tláhuac) were sealed and placed under police custody to continue with the corresponding investigations. Meanwhile, the Public Ministry will determine the legal situation of ‘El Pícoro’ and his operatives.
After the death of Felipe de Jesús, also known as ‘El Ojos’ (former leader of the Tláhuac Cartel) in 2017, it is presumed that the criminal organization was weakened. However, it currently operates in the metropolitan area. By then, its presence extended to Coyoacán, Iztapalapa, Milpa Alta, Magdalena Contreras, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco.
Likewise, it has expanded its criminal activities to the State of Mexico (Edomex), where it competes to control the territory with other criminal cells.
According to official reports from the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico, the Tláhuac Cartel carries out its criminal activities in Chalco, Valle de Chalco, and Ixtapaluca.
