Elements of the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA) killed at least 12 armed civilians – presumed members of the Gulf Cartel (CDG) – around 2:00 p.m. on February 18, 2024, in the Loma Linda neighborhood, in the municipality of Miguel Alemán, Tamaulipas.
The military repelled the attack after being targeted by a group of men that were hidden among the vegetation while carrying out a surveillance patrol on a dirt road very close to the “Lienzo Charro” and “Rancho Las Quintas” in the border area of Tamaulipas.
According to the Security Spokesperson of Tamaulipas, after the attack by armed civilians on SEDENA personnel, the soldiers secured 12 long weapons, cartridges, and magazines of various calibers.
“After an attack by armed civilians on elements of the Mexican Army in the Loma Linda neighborhood in #MiguelAlemán, 12 attackers were subdued, and 12 high-powered weapons, cartridges, and magazines of various calibers were seized,” stated the Security Spokesperson of Tamaulipas on their social media account on X.
Forensic experts from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) went to the scene, where they carried out the removal of the bodies to transfer them to the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) and perform autopsies. Meanwhile, the 12 long weapons, ammunition, and magazines of various calibers were handed over to the Public Ministry agent to be included in an investigation file.
Miguel Alemán is one of the five municipalities of the so-called “frontera chica” (small border), a border region of Tamaulipas with Texas, located between Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo, along with Camargo, Mier, Díaz Ordaz, and Guerrero.
