Some of the most recognized figures in the landscape of organized crime in Mexico, in addition to having “narcocorridos” that cheer on their activities, are also represented in a line of toys that is sold online.
The brand behind these figures is identified as Narco Toyz, whose website and Facebook account were created in August 2021.
Due to the fact that this brand’s website has an information protection service, the identity of the person or persons who own and manage the domain, as well as their location, is unknown.
As part of their catalog, Narco Toys offers action figures of criminal bosses Ovidio Guzmán, also known as ‘El Ratón’; Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán; and Ramón Arellano Félix, as well as Pablo Escobar and Chalino Sánchez.
According to the description provided by the brand, these toys are made from polyester resin, a synthetic material widely used in the creation of crafts and decorations due to its strength and durability.
Each figurine measures 9.5 centimeters high and comes in a box that is 10.16 cm high, 8.8 cm long, and 5.08 cm deep. The packaging of each one is personalized with images alluding to each character.
For example, the toy of ‘El Chapo’ comes in a box with the number 701 decorated with images of the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel taken after his first capture in 1993. Similarly, it includes an image of a marijuana leaf on the back and a skull with the Mexican flag on one side.
In the case of Ovidio Guzmán, he is represented with the outfit he was wearing on October 17, 2019, a date remembered as the day of the ‘Culiacanazo’, when a military command captured him in his home, but released him moments later due to threats from the Sinaloa Cartel. The toy even has its hands raised, just like he did when leaving his house, and with the scapulars hanging from his neck at that moment.
The figure of Ramón Arellano Félix represents a little-known photograph of the criminal leader, in which he is wearing a camouflage printed t-shirt, cargo pants, and a gun in his right hand.
On the back of the box, there is a photo of their family, as well as the acronym “CAF” in reference to the Arellano Félix Cartel and the number 664, which corresponds to the Tijuana area code.
It is worth noting that all figures are manufactured in China and are shipped through the postal service of the United States. The figure of ‘El Chapo’ is currently sold out at the time of this publication, but its price is 99.99 dollars, just over 1,700 Mexican pesos. On the other hand, ‘El Ratón’ and ‘El Comandante Mon’ can be purchased for 29.99 dollars, equivalent to around 500 pesos.
