On August 15, 1983, the marriage of Joaquín Guzmán Loera and María Alejandrina Salazar Hernández welcomed their second child: Iván Archivaldo, who is currently identified by authorities in the United States as the main leader of ‘Los Chapitos’, a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Although it is said that ‘El Chapo’ did not want any of his successors to be involved in the drug business like him, at least five of them followed in his footsteps and, at a young age, were already making decisions within the criminal organization that their father led between 2000 and 2016 alongside Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada.
According to Dámaso López Serrano, son of Dámaso López Núñez and associate of ‘El Chapo’ and former member of the Sinaloa Cartel, the first to enter was Édgar Guzmán López, one of the four descendants he had with Griselda Guadalupe López. He was followed by Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar and later his brother, Iván Archivaldo.
The ‘Mini Lic’, as he is also known, revealed to journalist Anabel Hernández that Iván Archivaldo took his place in the Sinaloa Cartel after the death of his half-brother Édgar. With the passing of time and experience, and after the capture of his father, he would become the main leader of ‘Los Chapitos’.

Within and outside of drug trafficking, Ivan Archivaldo is known as ‘El Chapito’, a nickname whose origin – diminutive – is based on the nickname of Guzman Loera, ‘El Chapo’.
However, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Service indicates on its search sheet that he has a second nickname that is not well known: “El Tocallo.”
On the other hand, a document from the Southern District Court of California, dated September 2013, states that Iván Archivaldo was identified as ‘Luis’ when he began in the drug trafficking business. However, the origin of this nickname is unknown.
With this, Iván Archivaldo becomes the second member of ‘Los Chapitos’ to have more than one alias, only behind his half brother Joaquín Guzmán López, who is identified as ‘El Güero’, ‘Moreno’, and ‘El Güero Moreno’.

It should be remembered that ‘El Chapito’ is wanted by the US justice system.
The Southern District of New York requests it for the alleged crimes of involvement in a continuous criminal enterprise; conspiracy to import and traffic fentanyl; possession of machine guns and destructive devices; and conspiracy to money laundering.
On its part, the Northern District of Illinois issued an indictment against him on April 5, 2023 for conspiracies to import, manufacture, and distribute cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana; possession of machine guns and destructive devices; and conspiracy to launder money.
“The US Department of State is offering a reward of up to 10 million dollars for information that leads to their arrest and/or conviction.”
