The latest attempt by Joaquín Guzmán Loera to nullify his trial was to accuse a supposed violation of his rights, however, a judge determined that the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel had not presented convincing arguments to annul his trial, so El Chapo will remain imprisoned at the maximum security prison ADX Florence, in the United States.
On his part, the man who was close to the boss did the same in Mexico, because Carlos Manuel Hoo Ramirez, also known as El Cóndor and who was a bodyguard and secretary of Guzman Loera, filed for a legal protection that will now be reviewed by the Supreme Court of Justice in Mexico (SCJN).
Another one of the people who was close to El Chapo Guzmán and had various tasks was his own brother, a man who was killed in 2004.
Arturo Guzmán Loera, also known as Arturito or El Pollo, was assassinated on December 31, 2004 while he was in the maximum security prison of El Altiplano in the State of Mexico. However, when this man was free, he worked as a close advisor to his brother.
In the book “That Cancer We Call Organized Crime,” journalist Héctor de Mauleón details some of the activities of Joaquín Guzmán’s brother and highlights the relationship he had with authorities in order to obtain useful information for his brother.
The journalist points out that Arturo Guzmán was in charge of a part of the criminal structure. According to Héctor de Mauleón, El Pollo had access to information about raids and operations, which represented an advantage for El Chapo.
“The most credible source of information that El Chapo had came from the national security structures in charge of capturing him. During the eight years he spent in prison, his brother El Pollo, who had taken over a part of the organization, recruited brokers whose function was to bribe military and commanders of the PGR (Office of the Attorney General).”

While other reports indicate that El Pollo was in charge of taking care of El Chapo’s children while the latter was imprisoned, according to information shared by El Financiero. However, it is not known if these people are the ones currently accused of leading Los Chapitos, a relevant faction within the Sinaloa Cartel sought after by the United States.
Arturo Guzmán was also accused of being a co-author of the first escape that his brother took part in, when he was detained in Puente Grande. At the time, El Pollo was considered by Mexican and American authorities as a “high-level killer.”
In the same way, Arturito would have been involved in the construction of a 60-meter drug tunnel built for the trafficking of illicit substances on the border between Tijuana and San Ysidro, as he was accused of being the mastermind behind these events.
Another one of the actions linked to El Chapo’s brother was the reception of large amounts of drugs coming from South America.

But in an operation carried out in August 2001, El Pollo was arrested in the then Federal District, accused of associating with two other individuals to commit drug trafficking crimes. He was captured under the accusation of facilitating the illegal trafficking of substances, as well as the production and distribution of cocaine and amphetamines, primarily intended for the United States market.
The capture of El Pollo and his accomplices was carried out after an investigation that implicated him in criminal activities. Judicial authorities proceeded to file charges for collaborating in drug trafficking, as well as for the manufacture and trafficking of drugs into U.S. territory.
