After the confrontation between alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Sinaloa Cartel in the municipality of Chicomuselo, Chiapas, residents of the area report around 20 deaths due to the rivalry between the criminal groups.
The events took place on January 4th, and according to a report released on Sunday night, January 7th, there would be more than 20 deaths from the confrontation, including two civilians.
In the report, the lack of action by the authorities is reported, and it is even stated that the four-letter cartel would have control of the municipal headquarters through checkpoints and blockades.

The confrontation, which, according to news reports, lasted around seven hours, also caused panic among the area’s residents and forced others to leave their homes.
“Since the beginning of January, recordings of an altercation between alleged members of criminal groups in Chicomuselo began circulating on social media. The clash between supposed members of organized crime took place around 11:30 in the morning.”
Due to the violence in the area, the inhabitants asked the authorities to come and address what is happening in the region. According to the statement, the people who had to leave their homes were residents of the community of Nueva Morelia.

They even pointed out that last December, an armed group, apparently members of the CJNG, would have been behind the eviction of the Limonar community. On the other hand, in a video shared on social media by Epicentro Noticias, the detonations can be heard in what, according to initial reports, was a confrontation in various points of Chiapas, including Chicomuselo.
In a report from March of last year by the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Human Rights Center (Frayba), it can be read that in previous years, the so-called “war against drugs” caused new forms of conflict in Chiapas.
And it is that since October of last year, it was reported that the conflict between the Sinaloa Cartel and the CJNG had resulted in the displacement of more than 3,000 people in Chiapas.
Chiapas is a relevant entity for criminal groups because it is a place where narcotics from South America enter. On the other hand, the CJNG, led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, El Mencho, and the Sinaloa Cartel, are the criminal groups with the most significant presence in the country.
Another scenario that depicts the situation in which Chipas finds itself is a video that circulated in September 2023, showing a convoy of trucks with armed individuals allegedly linked to the faction of Ismael El Mayo Zambada, one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel.
On that occasion, the villagers would have cheered on the armed men after they “freed” a stretch of road in the border region of La Trinitaria-Comitán and Trinitaria-Chamic.
” Claims from some civilians, while the individuals aboard the trucks respond with “Pure Mayo people.”
