The prosecutor said that next Tuesday more details will be provided on an investigation that has already resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects, among them José Lastra Hermida.
Mexico’s Attorney General, Alejandro Gertz Manero, acknowledged the existence of “years of impunity” in the case of the Izaguirre Ranch in Teuchitlán, Jalisco, where numerous human remains were recently discovered. He announced that more details about the investigation will be released next week thanks to the arrest a month ago of a member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
“We cannot accept that there has been such a level of impunity for so many years in that area without a very clear and precise response from justice,” he stated this Tuesday at President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference.
Gertz Manero announced that more details will be released next Tuesday regarding an investigation that has already resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects, including José Lastra Hermida, who was allegedly in charge of training potential new members, whom he lured with false job offers.
That arrest has provided “a significant amount of information” for the investigation, the prosecutor stated, insisting that new developments, including laboratory tests, will be submitted in writing next Tuesday.
“It has been a very controversial issue. “I would like to provide them with the documentation so there is no doubt,” he stated, while emphasizing that there will be “absolute transparency.”
Gertz Manero explained that the remains of the clothing found at the Izaguirre ranch have already been classified and are in an inventory that will be provided to those seeking to identify these individuals, although they will not be handed over “irregularly.”
The government has already explained that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel recruited young people with false job offers as security guards with salaries of up to 12,000 pesos per week.
Once transferred to the ranch, they were held incommunicado while receiving physical and weapons training. Depending on their skills, they were given a rank within the organization or assigned to different positions.
