The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) extradited Rodrigo Páez aka El R, nephew of Rafael Caro Quintero, to the United States, where he is wanted by the Federal District Court of Arizona for crimes of criminal association and crimes against health.
The agency headed by Alejandro Gertz Manero informed this Sunday, July 14, 2024, that El R is identified as one of the leaders of a drug trafficking organization The Caborca Cartel in Sonora, between 2017 and 2019.
“The extraditable was in charge of directing and supervising drug trafficking activities, and money laundering,” the FGR said in a statement.
El R was arrested in Zapopan, Jalisco, in 2023. On June 28 of that year, a judge of the Federal Criminal Justice Center in the Reclusorio Norte granted extradition.
Although El R’s defense filed a writ of amparo to revoke the measure, on July 9 the Mexico City Criminal Court rejected the defense’s allegations that there are systematic violations of the human rights of Mexican nationals who are subject to criminal proceedings or serving a sentence in the United States.
El R was handed over to U.S. agents designated for his transfer at the Toluca International Airport.
