First Contingent Of 400 Soldiers From The Army Arrive In Tijuana

The first contingent of 2,000 elements from the National Guard and Mexican Army, which will arrive to reinforce the public security strategy in the city, arrived during the afternoon of February 9th at the facilities of the 28th Infantry Battalion.

“José Guadalupe Gómez Salado, commander of the 28th infantry battalion, reported that the first contingent is made up of 400 elements. It is expected that during the next 4 days the rest of the 2,000 elements that will join the strategy will arrive.”

“It’s to strengthen the public security strategy, aiming for a greater presence on the streets with patrolling and the establishment of military security checkpoints, always collaborating or acting in an institutional manner, and in support of local authorities,” he explained about his arrival.

The elements that mostly come from the states of Mexico City, Queretaro, and Morelos will be deployed with priority in Tijuana, but Playas de Rosarito and Tecate are also considered since they are neighboring municipalities.

“We have a heat map where we have the statistics of the places or neighborhoods that have the highest incidence and that is where the personnel of both the National Guard and the Army are deployed,” he pointed out. However, he could not specify the areas where they will patrol, as they consider that the element of surprise is important for the effectiveness of their work.”

“Patrols will be carried out, during the day, at night, on foot, and in vehicles; they are called social proximity activities where personnel from both the Army and the National Guard interact with the population in search for strengthening the link between the Army, National Guard, and the population,” added.

The current membership of the element registry consists of 2,500 members. With the arrival of 2,000 new members, it is planned to maintain it permanently to strengthen public safety.

Similarly, he invited the community to contribute to the citizen’s report, by joining the effort to reduce crime rates; he reiterated that it is possible to do it anonymously.
