Eight men rescued in Tecalitlán operation

Tribuna de la Bahía reports that the Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office rescued eight men who were allegedly being held against their will at a property in Tecalitlán. The outlet says authorities described the property as a suspected clandestine “hospital” allegedly linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, or CJNG, where people with injuries or in need of physical recovery were reportedly kept. According to the Fiscalía del Estado de Jalisco, the operation was carried out by its Vice Prosecutor’s Office for Missing Persons with the National Guard and the Secretariat of National Defense.

Tribuna de la Bahía reports that the investigation began after a 20-year-old man was reported missing in San Pedro Tlaquepaque on July 21. The Fiscalía del Estado de Jalisco said investigators later located information placing him in Tecalitlán and entered the property in an emergency operation. The missing man was found with seven other males between 16 and 43 years old; the state prosecutor, Salvador González de los Santos, said they had been there against their will. The report says the rescued men included people from Mexico City, Guerrero, Michoacán and Sinaloa, and that at least two had difficulty walking or used mobility aids.

Authorities also detained five men and one woman, described by the Fiscalía del Estado de Jalisco as probable captors. Tribuna de la Bahía says officials seized suspected drug material, medicines, orthopedic supplies, three pairs of crutches, tactical boots and 100 rounds of 5.56-by-45-millimeter ammunition. The six detainees were placed at the disposal of judicial authorities in connection with alleged human-trafficking and disappearance offenses; the investigation remains ongoing.
