What happened
Sheinbaum called Marine Le Pen misinformed after the French far-right leader warned about cartel-driven “Mexicanization” and outlined security proposals ahead of the 2027 election.
Reporting and context
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum rejected Marine Le Pen's warning about the “Mexicanization” of France by drug cartels, calling the French far-right leader misinformed at her October 28 morning news conference. According to El Imparcial, Sheinbaum said Mexico should instead be associated with its people's honesty, love, solidarity and fraternity.
El Imparcial reported that Le Pen made the remarks at an October 25 rally in Orléans while presenting security proposals ahead of France's presidential election, scheduled for April 2027. Addressing thousands of supporters, the National Rally leader pledged to combat criminal organizations by treating them as terrorist groups. Her comparison with Mexico formed part of a speech focused on security, immigration controls and national sovereignty.
Sheinbaum's response, which the article attributed to reporting by El Universal, challenged Le Pen's characterization of Mexico. The president argued that the Mexican values she listed were needed around the world.
Le Pen also proposed stronger borders, the expulsion of immigrants who commit crimes and tougher sentences for attacks on law enforcement officers. The report said she defended giving French citizens preference in certain public policies and described nationality as a privilege inherited or earned.
