What happened

Quintana Roo prosecutors linked three arrests to separate cases in Alfredo V. Bonfil. One victim allegedly faced a 5 million peso demand; Alberto “N” was ordered held in pretrial detention in the other case.

Reporting and context

Three men were arrested in two operations linked to separate alleged abductions and extortion demands in Alfredo V. Bonfil, in Cancún's Benito Juárez municipality. According to Noticaribe, Quintana Roo prosecutors identified the detainees as Sergio “N”, Ricardo “N” and Alberto “N”.

The first investigation concerns an October 18 incident on Francisco I. Madero Street. Prosecutors allege that a motorcycle blocked a person who had just stepped out of a 2022 Jeep after arriving with companions. Sergio allegedly took part in that interception. Four armed men then arrived in a white Nissan vehicle, seized the victim and took them to a house.

The captors allegedly demanded 5 million pesos and threatened to kill the victim. Unable to raise that amount, the victim reportedly handed over 400,000 pesos and the ownership invoice for a vehicle. After a complaint was filed, a judge issued arrest warrants for Sergio and Ricardo. Both were placed before the judicial authority to determine their legal status.

Noticaribe reported that Alberto's arrest stemmed from a separate investigation in the same community. Prosecutors allege that he and other armed men went to a home on Emiliano Zapata Street in Supermanzana 308, forced the victim outside and drove them to a dirt road with their hands tied.

There, the group allegedly demanded 50,000 pesos in exchange for sparing the victim's life. When the victim said they had no money, the assailants allegedly released them and warned them against reporting the incident.

Alberto was arrested under a warrant and ordered held in pretrial detention while his legal status was being determined. The report, credited to InZoomMX, attributes the accounts to the state prosecutor's office and its specialized kidnapping and extortion unit. It describes separate investigations rather than a single incident.
