What happened

Quintana Roo prosecutors announced three warrant arrests in two Bonfil cases involving alleged demands of 5 million and 50,000 pesos. Alberto “N” was placed in pretrial detention.

Reporting and context

Quintana Roo prosecutors announced the arrests of Sergio “N”, Ricardo “N” and Alberto “N” under warrants in two separate investigations into alleged abductions and extortion in Alfredo V. Bonfil, Cancún. According to Macropolis Quintana Roo, Alberto was placed in pretrial detention while the judicial authority determines his legal status.

The investigation involving Sergio and Ricardo concerns an October 18 incident on Francisco I. Madero Street. The prosecutor's office alleges that a victim traveling with companions in a Jeep was intercepted after arriving at their destination and stepping out. A motorcycle allegedly driven by Sergio blocked the victim's path.

Four armed men then arrived in a white Nissan vehicle, forced the victim inside and took them to a house, investigators said. The group allegedly confined the victim and demanded 5 million pesos for their release. Faced with death threats and unable to raise that amount, the victim handed over 400,000 pesos and a vehicle ownership invoice, according to the investigation.

Macropolis Quintana Roo reported that police arrested Sergio and Ricardo after prosecutors obtained warrants following the victim's complaint. Both were placed before the judicial authority.

Alberto's case involves another victim on Emiliano Zapata Street in Supermanzana 308. Prosecutors allege that he and other armed men forcibly removed the person from their home and drove them, with their hands tied, to a dirt road.

The group allegedly demanded 50,000 pesos under threat of death. When the victim said they had no money, the assailants released them with a warning against reporting what happened. The report describes separate investigations and identifies pretrial detention as the measure imposed on Alberto.
