Reporting and context

Authorities detained 32 people in 38 simultaneous searches in the State of Mexico targeting alleged extortion, drug trafficking and illegal LP gas networks, according to Publimetro México, which cited Security and Citizen Protection Secretary Omar García Harfuch’s November 5 announcement.

The detainees included three alleged criminal leaders and two Nezahualcóyotl municipal police officers. Federal, state and municipal forces took part, with support from Pemex, in a deployment García Harfuch said targeted three criminal structures.

In Ecatepec, four people were detained, including Miguel “N,” alias “Miky Juárez,” whom authorities identified as the leader of an extortion and drug distribution organization allegedly operating behind a union front.

Publimetro México reported that 21 searches in the eastern part of the state targeted “Empresa Gigan,” described as linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and headed by Luis Humberto “N,” alias “El Gigan.” Those searches followed a seven-month investigation and resulted in 16 detentions, including the two police officers. Authorities linked the organization to homicide, arms trafficking, property dispossession, extortion and retail drug sales.

Another 15 searches led to 12 detentions involving people linked to Luis “N,” alias “El Pollo,” the alleged coordinator of an illegal LP gas extraction, storage and sales network. Reported seizures included 178,780 liters of fuel, 22 tanker trucks, 52 vehicles, 111 phones, 20 firearms, ammunition and narcotics.
