Federal officials reported arresting four men, including Mario N, known as Pokémon, in an investigation into an alleged Sinaloa Cartel weapons network. They reported seizing four firearms, ammunition, drugs and a vehicle.
Reporting and context
Federal authorities arrested four men in Culiacán on October 16 in an investigation into an alleged weapons-trafficking and repair network serving the Sinaloa Cartel, according to Publimetro México, citing Mexico's Security Cabinet.
The detainees included Germán N and Mario N, known as Pokémon, who had arrest warrants for organized crime and arms trafficking. The cabinet alleged that the four belonged to a cell responsible for transporting, maintaining and repairing weapons used by members of the criminal organization.
Publimetro México reported that the federal prosecutor's office, through its Criminal Investigation Agency, and the Security and Citizen Protection Ministry led the operation, supported by the Army, National Guard and Sinaloa state police.
Investigators identified homes in Culiacán associated with the group's alleged activities. Mexican authorities exchanged information with U.S. Homeland Security Investigations to locate the suspects, the report said.
Authorities reported seizing a machine gun, three handguns, 16 magazines, 417 rounds of ammunition, 200 individual drug doses and a vehicle. The men were placed at the disposal of prosecutors to determine their legal status.
For national context, the Security Cabinet said more than 36,300 firearms had been seized during the current federal administration, with 20% of that total in Sinaloa. It also said 80% of firearms seized in Mexico came from the United States. Those are broader official figures reported by the outlet, separate from the weapons recovered in this operation.
