What happened
Noroeste reported four arrests, a machine gun, three handguns, 417 rounds and 200 drug doses in Culiacán. Officials cited U.S. HSI information sharing; an earlier state account identified the drugs as suspected methamphetamine.
Reporting and context
Four men were arrested in Culiacán over alleged involvement in a cell that trafficked, transported, maintained and repaired weapons for the Sinaloa Cartel, Noroeste reported on October 16, citing Mexican security authorities.
The detainees included Germán “N” and Mario “N,” known as “Pokémon,” who had outstanding arrest warrants for alleged organized crime and arms trafficking offenses. Authorities reported seizing a machine gun, three handguns, 16 magazines, 417 rounds of ammunition, 200 drug doses and a vehicle during the operation.
According to Mexico's federal Security Cabinet, intelligence work and information sharing with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, through Homeland Security Investigations, helped identify Culiacán properties allegedly connected to the cell. The cabinet said an interagency deployment led to the four arrests and claimed the operation disrupted the group's weapons transport, maintenance and repair capacity.
Noroeste also reported an earlier account from Sinaloa's Public Security Secretariat. The state agency said officers responded to a report of armed people at a property in the Industrial Bravo neighborhood. Members of the state police's Special Operations Group, GOES, attended that report and seized a machine gun, several handguns, hundreds of rounds and 200 doses of suspected methamphetamine.
The federal account listed participation by the Attorney General's Office and its Criminal Investigation Agency, the federal Security and Citizen Protection Secretariat, the Defense Ministry, the National Guard and Sinaloa's Public Security Secretariat.
