What happened
Soldiers arrested Samuel “N” and two other alleged Los Tlacos members in Guerrero. Authorities link the former municipal official to a scheme forcing merchants to buy food products from the group, Azteca Noticias reported.
Reporting and context
Mexican soldiers arrested Samuel “N,” a former official in Copalillo, Guerrero, whom federal authorities identify as an alleged regional leader and financial operator for Los Tlacos. According to Azteca Noticias, Mexico’s Security Cabinet announced the arrest and said two other alleged members of the group were detained in the same operation.
Authorities reported seizing weapons, drugs and cash. The report did not provide quantities. Samuel previously served as oficial mayor in the municipal finance department. Copalillo’s government said he left the administration in March 2026 and distanced itself from him following the arrest.
Investigators allege that he participated in an extortion scheme that forced local merchants, through threats and intimidation, to buy basic food products from Los Tlacos members. The alleged aim was to control food distribution in the region. Authorities also linked him to homicide allegations, including suspected involvement in the killing of a family.
Azteca Noticias reported that Los Tlacos, also known as the Cártel de la Sierra, originated in Tlacotepec and emerged from a community police or self-defense movement. The outlet describes its subsequent expansion into northern Guerrero through drug dealing, killings and extortion. Local reports cited by Azteca also said Samuel had aspired to become Copalillo’s mayor.
