FGR investigates 59 million liters of Guanajuato fuel
Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office is investigating the origin and traceability of more than 59 million liters of fuel found in three Guanajuato municipalities. The agency said the product’s legal origin remains unestablished and the seizure does not itself prove that all of it was illicit.
Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office is investigating the origin and traceability of more than 59 million liters of fuel found in three Guanajuato municipalities, El Imparcial reported. The agency said the product’s legal origin has not been established, so the seizure does not by itself prove that all of it was illicit fuel.
The investigation began July 3, 2026, after a person was detained while allegedly unloading diesel from a tanker with a 33,000-liter capacity at a gas station in San Luis de la Paz. The FGR said the person could not document the fuel’s traceability. Authorities later obtained search warrants for three sites: the gas station, an LPG distribution facility in Dolores Hidalgo and a property in San José Iturbide. At the last site, they seized 10 large cylindrical containers, transport units, accounting records and invoices.
According to El Imparcial, the FGR reported 59,036,870.5274 liters in total: 33,504,067.406 liters of regular gasoline, 7,266,813.6174 liters of premium gasoline and 18,265,989.504 liters of diesel. The agency said it is determining the fuel’s ownership, origin, storage, transport and possible commercialization, as well as whether hydrocarbon or federal tax offenses occurred. The investigation remains open, and any potential responsibility will depend on the evidence and subsequent legal proceedings.
