What happened

Puebla authorities arrested three men, including ‘El Tartas,’ and reported seizing suspected drugs, a firearm and ammunition in a joint operation.

Reporting and context

Three men, including a suspect identified as Iván “N,” alias “El Tartas,” were arrested in Puebla in an operation targeting an alleged Jalisco New Generation Cartel cell, according to Tribuna Sonora, citing state authorities. The other detainees were identified as Carlos “N,” 30, and Francisco “N,” 27; Iván is 28.

Authorities said they seized more than 280 packets containing substances resembling methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and marijuana. They also reported recovering a firearm, two magazines, 39 live rounds and a vehicle with Guerrero license plates. The seized items were turned over to the authorities handling the investigation.

Tribuna Sonora reported that investigators suspected the men of coordinating drug distribution and locating properties to serve as meeting places for other members of the cell. Authorities also alleged involvement in violence linked to the group. The report said two detainees had criminal records involving drug, firearms and property offenses, without specifying which men.

Puebla’s Public Security Secretariat, the Navy and the state prosecutor’s office carried out the joint operation. For context, the outlet recalled that state security secretary Francisco Sánchez González acknowledged the presence of the CJNG, the Sinaloa Cartel and La Familia Michoacana in Puebla in January 2025. It also cited a separate August 31, 2026, announcement of three suspected CJNG members arrested in the metropolitan area.
