Banda El Recodo Addresses Emma Coronel Baptism Claim

Infobae México reports that Banda El Recodo musicians said they could not confirm whether an earlier lineup performed at the 2011 baptism of the twin daughters of Emma Coronel and Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán.

Ricky Yocupicio and Geovanni Mondragón, current vocalists for the Sinaloa group, addressed the claim during an interview with the television program De Primera Mano. Yocupicio said the people who belonged to the band at the time would be the ones able to verify whether it accepted the engagement.

The singers said the band frequently performs without knowing who ultimately paid for an event and sometimes leaves without meeting the client. Mondragón said performance arrangements can vary according to a customer’s request, including appearances without a conventional stage.

The questions followed comments Coronel made during a broadcast on the Kick platform. According to Infobae, she said Los Tucanes de Tijuana performed at her daughters’ baptism and affirmed, when asked, that Banda El Recodo was also present. The report does not provide independent confirmation from musicians who were members of El Recodo in 2011.

Coronel and Guzmán’s twin daughters were born in Lancaster, California, on August 15, 2011, while Guzmán was a fugitive. Guzmán was sentenced to life in federal prison in 2019 and is incarcerated at ADX Florence in Colorado.
