11 detained in Escuinapa in case linked to kidnapped miners
Noticias PV reports 11 Escuinapa arrests linked to the Concordia miners' kidnapping.
Mexican soldiers and Sinaloa state police detained 11 people in Escuinapa in an operation linked to the kidnapping of mining workers in Concordia, Noticias PV reported on September 13, citing security authorities.
The outlet said the arrests took place during patrols in La Isla del Bosque. According to the report, personnel from the Army and the state public security secretariat's special operations group seized 12 high-powered firearms, magazines, ammunition of several calibers and tactical vests.
Noticias PV described the detainees as suspected members of Gente del Güero Pin, a group it linked to Los Chapitos. Citing a state security report, the outlet said the cell operated under a figure known as El Casco, whom investigators linked to the January kidnapping of 10 employees of Vizsla Silver and Cicar in Concordia.
The report said authorities transferred the detainees and seized weapons to federal prosecutors at the Attorney General's Office under a security escort. Prosecutors were expected to open an investigation to determine the detainees' legal status. The article did not identify El Casco as one of those arrested.
