Reporting and context
CJNG-linked suspect transferred to Altiplano as Mexico City protests continue
A man identified as Iván “N,” known as “El Tanque,” was transferred to the maximum-security Federal Social Readaptation Center No. 1, known as Altiplano, in Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico, according to Azteca Noticias. The outlet described him as an alleged operator of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Authorities arrested him on Oct. 5 in Zapopan, Jalisco, after investigation and intelligence work. He was placed at the disposal of prosecutors and transferred under guard while the Public Prosecutor’s Office determines the specific charges and judicial authorities determine his legal status.
Azteca Noticias also reported that more than 100 officers from Mexico City’s Secretariat of Citizen Security, the investigative police and the Metropolitan Police entered the Oriente Preventive Men’s Prison in Iztapalapa for an internal inspection. The operation lasted more than five hours, and National Guard personnel secured the perimeter. The deployment and temporary closure of access streets caused concern among relatives of inmates, while authorities had not released the results of the inspection in the source report.
Separately, doctors, nurses and other Mexican Social Security Institute workers continued blocking Paseo de la Reforma outside the agency’s headquarters after a negotiation lasting more than seven hours ended without an agreement. The workers are seeking improved conditions, hospital supplies, medicines and filled vacancies, and rejected a proposed 2.9% wage increase. A 29-day protest by families searching for missing relatives also ended after the Federal Attorney General’s Office formally received 67 complaints, although the families called for follow-up on each investigation.
