More than a month after the detention and death of Nemesio Ceguera—alias “El Mencho”—his grave has been transformed into a tourist attraction. Floral arrangements featuring exclusive designs have even been spotted there.
Take a look: more than a month after the downfall of Nemesio Ceguera Cervantes—leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel—this is what his grave looks like: practically a tomb made entirely of red roses.
As we can observe—and according to some bystanders—the grave’s decorations were updated approximately two weeks ago, though it remains unknown who was responsible for the arrangement.
The grave features a canopy, as well as a giant heart made of roses adorned with a ribbon bearing the inscription “We Miss You”; the roses throughout the entire display no longer appear particularly fresh.
As we can see, at the foot of this rose-covered grave lies another inscription: “I Love You, Baby.” Some of the ornaments bear the label of the Yacun florist shop located in Guadalajara—an establishment distinguished by its exclusive and innovative designs.
Within their catalog, under the “Sculpture” section, one can find heart-shaped figures crafted from red roses; these items—which incorporate 2,500 roses each—can cost anywhere between 27,000 and nearly 56,000 [pesos].
Meanwhile, in the “Condolences” section, wreaths made of red roses range in price from 25,000 to 28,650, and even up to 58,000 [pesos]. The grave where “El Mencho” lies—located within the Recinto La Paz cemetery—has truly become a point of interest.
It is a curious phenomenon because—let’s be honest—there is always someone who loves us. We are sons, we are fathers, we are brothers; love makes no distinctions, and there will always be someone who cherishes the love they received from another—and I believe it is precisely those people who are maintaining the grave in this manner.
Visitors who have traveled from afar to visit their own loved ones’ graves often pull out their cell phones to snap photographs of the site. Others—upon seeing that we were present and that no one was standing guard—approached us to comment.
“The grave turned out very beautifully—the grave itself, and the floral arrangements; they look excellent.” “Does coming here not frighten you? Do you feel no fear given the circumstances?”
“Well, you see, I have relatives here, so I’ve always come back frequently.” People of all ages visit the grave—even minors. The site is periodically monitored by lookouts.
