He escaped from prison where he was serving a sentence for drug trafficking and arms trafficking offenses.
As a result of inter-institutional intelligence work in the state of Guerrero, in an operation led by investigative agents of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), in coordination with the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and National Guard (GN), Sotero “N”, of American nationality, was arrested, who was wanted by the authorities of the United States after escaping from a federal prison in that country.
The above was carried out by following up on investigative work in collaboration with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) of the United States, which allowed identifying the mobility area of Sotero “N” in Zihuatanejo, Guerrero.
With the information obtained, a deployment was carried out in the place, where after corroborating his identity, Sotero “N”, 52 years old, was arrested, who has an extradition order to the United States.
Intelligence information indicates that the subject was arrested on charges of narcotics and firearms trafficking, however, he escaped from a federal prison in the United States.
It is also known that this person is involved in drug trafficking, sending heroin and cocaine to the United States through Laredo and McAllen, Texas; drugs that were transported hidden inside car batteries.
According to authorities in the District of Texas, Sotero “N” was sentenced in 2010 for conspiring to illegally export firearms.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of the corresponding Public Ministry agent to be brought before the authority that requires it.
With these actions, the institutions of the Security Cabinet reaffirm the commitment to work in coordination to stop generators of violence.
