Car burnings and roadblocks due to clashes between armed civilians and police officers in Chiapas
According to the Secretariat of Public Security, in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office, it was reported that an operation began early this morning in the area, which has been plagued by organised crime.
On Monday morning, at least 10 vehicles were set on fire and two roadblocks were set up at various points in Jiquipilas, Cintalapa and Arriaga in Chiapas, as a result of a major security operation against organized crime.
According to the Secretariat of Public Security, in coordination with the State Attorney General’s Office, an operation began early this morning in the area, which has been plagued by organised crime for several years.
The population reported a vehicle burning on the road from Chiapa de Corzo to Ángel Albino Corzo International Airport. A roadblock was also reported at kilometre 40 of the Ocozocoautla-Arriaga motorway.
The road from Villaflores to Ocozocoautla was blocked by the burning of at least 10 vehicles, preventing the passage of citizens. There is a report of a shooting at kilometre 171 of the Ocozocoautla-Las Choapas motorway.
Prosecutor’s Office closes Jiquipilas toll booth for safety reasons
Meanwhile, the State Prosecutor’s Office closed the Jiquipilas toll booth for safety reasons. Authorities say that road sections are being reinforced to ensure the safety of citizens travelling through the area.
It was also announced that the results of this operation, which involved 14 searches in Jiquipilas and Cintalapa, will be released in the coming hours.
Unofficially, there is talk of the arrest of Juan Manuel Baldovinos Mendoza, alias “El Señor de los Caballos” (The Lord of the Horses), a figure who allegedly led a cartel and trafficked undocumented immigrants in Chiapas.
