Federal Judge Anthony Trenga of the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia, sentenced Damaso López Serrano, “El Mini Lic,” to five years in prison for the crime of attempting to distribute synthetic drugs manufactured with fentanyl.
“El Mini Lic,” son of Damaso López Núñez, “El Licenciado,” a close associate and operator for Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera, served as a cooperating witness for the DEA in the United States. After being released under supervision, he violated the agreement and returned to drug trafficking.
Both “El Licenciado” and “El Mini Lic” are accused in Mexico of being involved in the murder of journalist Javier Valdez Cárdenas, which occurred on May 15, 2017, in Culiacán, Sinaloa, an execution in which Guzmán Loera’s sons are also mentioned.
In May of last year, López Serrano was arrested by FBI agents in an undercover operation after the DEA learned that their cooperating witness was now distributing drugs in several locations in the United States while on parole.
After his arrest, “El Mini Lic” pleaded not guilty to the charges of attempting to distribute and sell 3 kilograms of fentanyl-laced drugs in Los Angeles, California; however, it was FBI agents who posed as buyers of the narcotics.
During the time of his parole, which he violated, “El Mini Lic” gave several interviews to Mexican journalists, whom he deceived due to their naiveté and lack of knowledge about drug trafficking. He claimed that El Chapo Guzmán, from prison, had ordered his sons, through letters, to allegedly kidnap Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada García, a top leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
El Chapo Guzmán is currently incarcerated in Florence, Colorado, at the Supermax prison, serving a life sentence plus 30 years. A federal prosecutor consulted by Proceso regarding the journalistic reports about El Mayo, which were disseminated by “El Mini Lic” to reporters eager for notoriety, stated that “it is impossible that El Chapo was the architect of the alleged kidnapping of Zambada García through letters to his sons, since everything the criminal does, writes, or says is meticulously reviewed in the Florence prison. Even his toilet paper is inspected,” the prosecutor quipped.
Regarding the murder of Valdez Cárdenas, during El Chapo Guzmán’s trial in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn, López Nuñez, as a key witness for the U.S. Department of Justice, affirmed that the journalist’s murder was ordered by the sons of his compadre.
López Nuñez is the godfather of the twin daughters El Chapo Guzmán had with Emma Coronel, and he also met with Valdez Cárdenas weeks before he was murdered in front of his house.

yo crei que tenia que cumplir toda su sentencia pasada junto con la nueva acusacuion contra de el.
Regardless of whether this self-centered durg by cooperated with DEA, he should either be given a lethal dose of fentanyl or kept in solitary confinement for the rest of his natural life. A 5 year sentence is an insult to human dignity.
This mutt needs to be put down. How can he only get 5? He must be really singing. He had to have given up something big to get that sentence. Chances are it’s bad info. This kid is slimy as they come.
Damn what a fucking dumbass should’ve giving him 10yrs
