Dave Franke recently interviewed me about Cartel Insider, the sources behind my reporting, and what I need to know before I name a cartel in a story. We talked about government records, photographs, and why a source’s claim is a starting point for reporting, not the finished story.
Dave is a U.S. reporter who says he served with the Policía Estatal Preventiva under Zacatecas’s Secretaría de Seguridad Pública from 2012 to September 2016. Today, he examines the public record behind cartel claims, including charging documents, FOIA and CPRA responses, and the records an agency holds to support what it says publicly.
