Criminal Group ‘Salsas Mexicanos Nueva Generación’ Uses Name to Intimidate in Colombia

A criminal group called Salsas Mexicanos Nueva Generación (New Generation Mexican Salsas) has emerged in Colombia. Yes, Salsas Mexicanos Nueva Generación in Colombia has nothing to do with Mexican cartels. 

At least, that’s what Colombian authorities told Milenio. They only use the name to intimidate their rivals and the population by posing as Mexicans. This is a report by Jorge Martínez. 

In Colombia, drug dealers and extortionists are already using the names of Mexican cartels to sow fear among the population, to appear stronger, to intimidate and facilitate their activities, but also to try to influence electoral processes through coercion, threats, or vote buying. 

This practice was exposed after the arrest of five people on the Caribbean coast who claimed to be part of the criminal group Los Salsas Mexicanos Nueva Generación, or Los Salsas Nueva Generación. 

They were accused of disrupting the democratic process and suppressing and concealing public documents, specifically ballots. On March 8th, the day of the legislative elections in Colombia, the police seized ballots from them. 

On that same day, police confiscated weapons and drugs, and it is known that they were operating in Cartagena. These individuals are led by alias La Negra and alias Sander, notorious criminals who have plagued not only the city of Cartagena but also the department of Bolívar for many years. 

These individuals are being prosecuted for conspiracy to commit a crime and extortion. Manuel Mandujano, a retired colonel of the National Police, states that there is no presence of Mexican cartels in Colombia, but they do have connections for cocaine trafficking. 

There is also unofficial, unverified information that small groups exist that call themselves Jalisco New Generation. They are not a structure of the Mexican cartel, but rather criminal groups that, in order to generate fear and make themselves feel somewhat strong, call themselves by these names, but they have no relation to the actual Mexican Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
