Juan Pablo, alias “El Argentino,” would impersonate a woman on a dating app to blackmail his victims. He demanded money from them in exchange for not spreading their intimate photos. Authorities arrested him in Mérida for the crime of extortion. This is how he operated:
Juan Pablo, aka “El Argentino,” created fake female profiles on dating apps to seduce and blackmail men. It all started with a match. They would chat, and after a few messages, El Argentino would offer to exchange phone numbers to get to know each other better.
Once he gained their trust, he would arrange their first in-person date, which never materialized. He would then ask his victims for intimate photos. But once the photos were sent, the romance ended, and the extortion began.
He demanded money in exchange for not sharing the photos and personal information with their family and friends. According to the complaint that led to his arrest, in May of this year, the extortionist threatened his victim with messages and calls.
He initially demanded a deposit of 3,000 pesos, and the amounts increased until he asked for 12,000 pesos. The victim only deposited 1,800 pesos, blocked his account, and reported him to the police.
After tracing his movements, the Quintana Roo and Yucatán prosecutor’s offices located him in the Juan Pablo II neighborhood. This 43-year-old man is now accused of extortion.
What do you think? He was arrested in Yucatán. El Argentino was transferred to the Attorney General’s Office in Benito Juárez Norte in the state of Quintana Roo, where he was placed at the disposal of a judge.
