A video circulating in which they call themselves “combatants” of criminal gangs is circulating; what do authorities say?
A video circulating on social media has raised alarm in municipalities in southern Veracruz, primarily Coatzacoalcos and Minatitlán, following the alleged emergence of an armed group calling itself “Cobra.”
In the recording, whose authenticity hasn’t been confirmed by authorities, armed individuals with their faces covered can be seen, who claim to be acting with the support of local businessmen. Their alleged objective, they say, is to confront criminal gangs that, they claim, have caused violence, extortion, and fear in the region.
In the center of the image, two men can be seen being held with large knives around their necks.
The message, delivered by one of its members, insists that their actions are directed solely against criminal groups, and that “citizens who live and work honestly” have nothing to fear.
However, the appearance of this video has sparked growing concern among residents, who see these expressions as a risk rather than a solution.
One of the aspects that has generated the most controversy is the group’s gratitude to the authorities, for having, they say, removed surveillance cameras, thereby facilitating their movements. This statement sparked concern among internet users.
So far, no state or federal agency has taken an official position on the dissemination of the video, nor has it confirmed whether the existence or operations of the self-proclaimed “Cobra” group are being investigated. On social media, residents of the region’s municipalities are demanding a response and clear action.
