A couple was shot dead in the Las Brisas housing development in Temixo, Morelos. The man is believed to be Iván Morales Corrales, a non-commissioned officer of the defunct federal police. He was the only survivor of the attack orchestrated by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) against the helicopter in which he was traveling in May 2015.
The non-commissioned officer was part of the group of policemen assigned to capture Nemesio Ceguera Cervantes, aka El Mencho, leader of the CJNG. But as they flew across Villa Purificación, Jalisco, the aircraft was shot down. Due to the attack, the officer received burns on 70% of his body.
According to official reports, the non-commissioned officer was traveling with a woman in a black pickup truck around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, when they were hit by another vehicle that stopped where armed men got out and shot at least 15 times at the non-commissioned officer and his partner.
Witnesses told police that after the attack, the gunmen ran toward the main avenue where their accomplices were waiting for them on motorcycles. The lines of investigation include possible revenge for his background as a police officer. Federal Police reported sources from the Attorney General’s Office of Morelos.
