Luis “N”, also known as “R8”, who is believed to be the chief of security for Aureliano “El Guano” Guzmán, was captured in a joint operation by the Mexican Army and National Guard on the border of Badiraguato, Sinaloa and El Durazno, Durango, on the afternoon of Monday, July 8th.
The information about his arrest was not made public until the evening, and three other people were also arrested with him, whose identities have not yet been disclosed by the authorities. There were also burnt vehicles.
According to unofficial information, the operation was mainly focused on the capture of Aureliano Guzman Loera, who is the older brother of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and one of the current enemies of “Los Chapitos”, his nephews.
“El Guano” is the leader of the “Guano People” faction (GDG), a branch of the Pacific Cartel, considered one of the main generators of violence in the mountainous region of the Golden Triangle (Chihuahua, Durango, and Sinaloa).
The action took place in the town of “El Durazno”, in Tamazula, Durango, as part of a more extensive deployment in the Golden Triangle area, where the transit of drugs is facilitated.
During the operation, a confrontation between armed civilians and security forces took place in the communities of San José del Llano, Badiraguato, and El Durazno. In the exchange of gunfire, at least four people died, and five were injured, according to local media.

The arrested individuals were transported by Navy helicopters to Military Air Base number 10 and later taken to Mexico City on an Air Force plane. A video shared on social media showed security forces escorting the detainees to the helicopters, corroborating the operation.
This is not the first attempt to capture “El Guano”. In February 2023, a similar operation was carried out in the same region, but the boss managed to escape. Unofficially, it has been mentioned that a son of “El Guano”, nicknamed “El Gringo”, may have been captured or killed in the confrontation on Monday.
Aureliano Guzmán Loera is an important leader of the Sinaloa Cartel. He controls drug trafficking routes from Sinaloa to Sonora and from there to the United States.

The brother of “El Chapo” faces charges in Arizona District for conspiracy to produce and transport marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl on US territory.”
In addition to the dispute with his nephews, “Los Chapitos,” he also has a possible rivalry with Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, another leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
