In October, Dámaso López Serrano, aka ‘El Mini Lic’, revealed several secrets about “Los Chapitos,” the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán who lead a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. In an interview with journalist Anabel Hernández for her book, “The Secret History: AMLO and the Sinaloa Cartel,” ‘El Mini Lic’ claimed Ovidio Guzmán was weak and abused by his wife, Adriana Meza Torres, who once set fire to one of his lover’s houses out of jealousy.
‘El Mini Lic’ shared stories of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, who cried in prison and envied his half-brother Edgar Guzmán López, seen as El Chapo’s heir. He also recounted the violent outbursts of Alfredo Guzmán Salazar and the tumultuous relationship between Ovidio and Adriana.
In another fit of jealousy, Adriana traveled to Guamúchil to confront another of Ovidio’s lovers and demanded a luxury truck that Ovidio, known as “El Ratón,” had gifted her. Now, Ovidio is in jail, away from Adriana Meza Torres.
Adriana Meza Torres, daughter of the prominent Sinaloa Cartel member Raúl Meza Ontiveros (assassinated in 2007), is Ovidio Guzmán’s wife and mother to their three daughters: Adriana, Griseli, and María Joaquina.
Journalist José Luis Montenegro, in his book *Los Chapitos: Criminal X-Ray of the Heirs of the Sinaloa Cartel*, reveals that El Chapo Guzmán once gave his son marital advice, referring to Ovidio as “the spoiled one.”
‘El Mini Lic’, a former cartel member, recounted meeting Adriana at parties and clubs, where she would mention leaving Ovidio at home with their daughters. Ovidio, described as a loving father, returned home during a police operation to comfort his distressed daughter, leading to his capture in January 2023.
Extradited to the United States in September 2023, Ovidio is the only son of El Chapo facing justice. Adriana’s name gained media attention, but authorities had been monitoring her since 2019, following the first “culiacanazo.”
Known as the “boss’s wife,” Adriana is more than Ovidio’s partner. She is a successful businesswoman and a key figure in the Sinaloa Cartel’s money laundering operations, succeeding Emma Coronel as a leader among the women in the Guzmán Salazar-López criminal family.
