At the presentation of her book *The Secret History: AMLO and the Sinaloa Cartel*, journalist Anabel Hernández discussed the rise of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán’s sons, ‘Los Chapitos’, who now control the entire Pacific region, amassing a great fortune.
Hernández described them as ‘kings’ who collect ‘taxes’ from the Sinaloa population, with disobedience often resulting in death.
She detailed their earnings from various illicit activities, including beer sales, prostitution, sexual slavery, human trafficking, extortion, gambling, fentanyl, meth production, and even legitimate enterprises like tomato cultivation and purified water.

Hernández noted that “Los Chapitos” have even taken over Uber-like services in Sinaloa and other areas they control, causing tension with Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada. Despite their uneasy alliance with López Obrador, this tension has led to an undeclared war, exacerbated by “Mini Lic’s” comments about ‘El Mayo.’ Due to the strength of the armies created by Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar (‘El Chapito’), Jesús Alfredo (‘El Alfredillo’), and Joaquín Guzmán López (‘El Güero’), ‘El Mayo’ has refrained from declaring open war.

‘El Mini Lic’ claims that ‘El Mayo’ Zambada avoids waging war against ‘Los Chapitos’ because he knows he would lose. ‘Los Chapitos’ have built armies and amassed great wealth and power from fentanyl production, giving them an unlimited advantage.
Anabel Hernández emphasizes their dominance in fentanyl production, quoting Dámaso López Serrano, ‘El Mini Lic’, who says the potent drug is produced as if it were fresh water.
