Four Workers Kidnapped in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco

The General Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Jalisco confirmed a new case of multiple disappearances in Lagos de Moreno. Four men, including bricklayers and laborers, were reportedly taken on Monday, May 20th, from the town of Las Cruces. Prosecutor Luis Joaquín Méndez Ruiz revealed that three of the men had addiction problems, and an operation has been launched to locate them.

Local media reported that around 10 PM on Monday, armed individuals arrived in a white vehicle at a residence and forcefully took a man. Later, three more individuals also disappeared. The victims are:

• Pedro Becerra Espinoza , 26 years old;
• Jesús Arturo Serrano Becerra , 29 years old;
• Diego Guadalupe Estrada Villalobos, 22;
• Rubén Zermeño Gómez , 21 years old

Méndez Ruiz stated they are working intensively to identify the culprits and the vehicles involved and are reviewing surveillance footage. The kidnappers were heavily armed.

This incident underscores the critical security situation in Lagos de Moreno, already marked by violence and kidnappings. It recalls a similar case a few months ago when Uriel Galván, Dante Cedillo, Jaime Adolfo Martínez, Diego Alberto Lara, and Roberto Olmeda disappeared, causing nationwide outrage. The five friends were last seen on August 11th, 2023, at ‘El Mirador,’ a popular spot for young people.

That night, none of the five returned home, prompting their families to report their disappearance immediately. Subsequent investigations led to the discovery of bones in a brick kiln in the community of La Troje. However, authorities stated that the remains did not belong to the missing young men, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

The case gained further notoriety when a leaked image and video surfaced on social media, showing the young men kneeling, bound, gagged, and visibly beaten. In the video, one of the friends, under coercion, was seen hitting another with a stone, appearing lifeless.

So far, at least five people have been detained in connection to the disappearance but have not been convicted. Those detained include Isidro “N” (Chilo), Luis Antonio “N” (La Morsa), Eruviel “N” (Conejo), José Fernando “N” (Fercho), and Víctor Armando “N” (Diablito), suspected hitmen for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The uncertainty persists as the whereabouts of Uriel, Dante, Jaime Adolfo, Diego Alberto, and Roberto remain unknown. The young men’s community and families continue to wait for answers and justice.
