This Is The List Of Members Of Morena Linked To The Sinaloa Cartel.

The alleged relationship between the Sinaloa Cartel and Morena once again shook Mexican politics after journalist Anabel Hernández’s column in Deutsche Welle; however, accusations of links between both forces (political and criminal) are not new and range from financing electoral campaigns to organized crime operators involved in the 4T sphere.

According to the words of the author of “The Narco Lords,” an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) revealed that the Sinaloa Cartel delivered between 2 and 4 million dollars to the presidential campaign of Andrés Manuel López Obrador in 2006 with the intention of having influence in the appointment of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR).

According to Hernandez, on June 15, 2006, during one of AMLO’s campaign closures, the current president spoke with “La Barbie” Édgar Valdez Villarreal and thanked him for his support for his campaign “and said that when he reached the presidency he wanted to reduce violence.”

The alleged infiltration of the Sinaloa Cartel in Morena is also detailed in other cases:

Alam Nidia Tapia Quintero: In 2023 she won the position of the syndicate of Tacuichamona, Culiacan, but aside from becoming the first woman to achieve that position, she was also pointed out for being the alleged sister of José Guadalupe Tapia Quintero, one of the main operators of Ismael El Mayo Zambada. “El Lupe” was said to be the owner of a network of bus and truck companies with which he transported tons of drugs across the borders of Tijuana and Sonora, according to information from the DEA.

José Ramón Enríquez Herrera: The current senator of the Republic was linked to the brothers José Luis, Alberto and Alejandro Cabrera Sarabia, accused of trafficking heroin for the Sinaloa Cartel. According to an investigation by the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), when Enríquez Herrera won the election for the municipal presidency of Durango, he called a meeting with politicians from the PAN, PRD and MC to introduce them to his “compadre” and financer of political campaigns: Gerardo Soberanes, also known as “El G-1”, an operator for the Cabrera Sarabia brothers.

Imelda Castro: From the Senate floor, Senator Lilly Téllez pointed out her fellow party member from Morena and accused her of being protected by the Gulf and Sinaloa cartels: “How can I stand up against the Senator from Sinaloa knowing she has the full backing of the Gulf Cartel and the Chapo Cartel. How can we stand up against you who have the full support of the drug traffickers, of the mafias (…) Morena is the political arm of organized crime.”

José Paz López Elenes: The mayor of Badiraguato, although not accused of alleged links to drug trafficking, did attract public attention by proposing the creation of a “Narco Museum” in Badiraguato, the birthplace of El Chapo Guzmán, which would require an investment of 15 million pesos from the public treasury.

Ruben Rocha Moya: The governor of Sinaloa has come out to defend the politicians and businessmen accused of suspected links to the Sinaloa Cartel: of Alma Tapia Quintero, he said that no one should criticize anyone (only the people) and that everyone had the right to participate in an electoral competition and win; of Jesus Vizcarra Calderon -presumed friend of “El Mayo” Zambada, with whom he appears in a photograph- he said he does not know if he is or not and took him to a dinner with businessmen and politicians with AMLO at the National Palace.

Virgilio Mendoza Amezcua: Recently, the mayor of Manzanillo, Griselda Martínez, was expelled from Morena for alleging the party’s alleged links to organized crime, specifically her predecessor Mendoza Amezcua, leader of the Party Verde Ecologista de México and candidate for the Morena-Verde coalition for the Senate of the Republic. The mayor pointed out a diversion of three million pesos during her administration and revealed a presumed compadrazgo with Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

Rosy Bayardo: According to Mayor Griselda Martínez, the break-up with Morena was due to the fact that the party and Governor Indira Vizcaíno are promoting the candidacy of Rosy Bayardo to succeed her in Manzanillo – one of the ports where most of the precursor chemicals for drug manufacturing enter – despite the alleged ties linking her to the Sinaloa Cartel.

In an interview for Infobae Mexico, journalist Ricardo Ravelo pointed to an alleged political-crime pact to “pacify the country” by allowing the Sinaloa Cartel to dominate the entire country, accompanied by the electoral victories of Morena.
