José Rodrigo Aréchiga Gamboa, also known as ‘El Chino Ántrax’, began working for the Sinaloa Cartel in 2004, when he was just 24 years old, according to the testimony of Vicente Zambada Niebla, better known as ‘El Vicentillo’. Zambada stated that Aréchiga first worked as a driver for his half-brother ‘El Mayito Gordo’.
And it’s been said for years that Aréchiga Gamboa began as an escort for ‘El Vicentillo’, ‘El Mayo’s son, and he himself claimed that he started off with a very low profile, to the point of running errands, while working as a driver for Ismael Zambada Imperial, whom he had known since childhood.
It wasn’t until 2008 when he began to gain notoriety within the drug group when the war with the Beltrán Leyva, Carrillo Fuentes, and Zetas began, as the founder of the armed branch of Los Ántrax, which was in effect until 2016.

“José Rodrigo Aréchiga Gamboa, also known as ‘Chino Ántrax’, grew up alongside my younger stepbrother, Ismael Zambada Imperial, also known as ‘Mayito Gordo’, approximately in 2004. ‘Chino’, at the age of 24, began working for the Sinaloa Cartel at a very low level, usually just driving for ‘Gordo’ and running errands. He continued in this role until around 2008, when he began to have more responsibilities. After the war broke out with the Beltrán, Zetas, and Carrillo Fuentes clans, ‘Chino’ started working as a bodyguard for ‘Gordo’. He was given weapons and authority to bring in more people to help protect ‘Gordo’. After a while of protecting ‘Gordo’, ‘Chino’ started escorting me. I gave ‘Chino’ a bulletproof Jeep and authorized him to do surveillance, along with the 20 people he worked with. ‘Chino’ and his team were all paid by my father. Later on, he became more involved with the Sinaloa Cartel, protecting both me and ‘Gordo’.” These were the words of ‘El Vicentillo’ about ‘El Chino Ántrax’.
Even though his main duty was not only to take care of his superiors, ‘El Vicentillo’ found out in 2007 about the method of drug transportation used to send them to the United States, through the trucks of a renowned chicken selling company.
‘El Chino Ántrax’ had contacts within the company, which made it easier for him to transport around two tons in each trailer, starting with one of the operations that would increase his status within the criminal group.

Upon learning, ‘The Hat Lord’ gave him a mission, which he was able to successfully complete, as together with ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán they compared six tons of marijuana to send to the United States.
“Chino” told me in 2007 that he was also working on the drug transportation, from Culiacan to the border and bringing back money to Culiacan. He tried to use this same system to move drugs and money for other people, charging them for the service. “Chino’s” system consisted of taking the drugs to the border, where they were passed to the United States by others. He told me that he usually delivered the drugs to the same clients who had paid for transportation to the border. His clients were responsible for transporting the drugs to the United States themselves. “Chino” informed me that he used two refrigerated trailers to transport the drugs and he also confided in me that he had a source within the company Bachoco, which is a legitimate company that specializes in the transportation of chicken, eggs, and other products in Mexico”, as mentioned in the book “The Traitor” by Anabel Hernandez.
With this method, ‘El Chino’ gained the trust of Ismael Mario, who gave him privileges and authority within the criminal group, until his arrest in 2013, when he was traveling to the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands.
