In recent years, the advanced age of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes —known as ‘El Mencho’—, as well as the chronic illnesses he supposedly suffers from, have raised doubts about who could be his successor in the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
Within the possible candidates to assume the leadership of the organization is Audias Flores Silva, better known by the aliases of ‘El Jardinero’ (‘The Gardener’), ‘Comandante’ (‘Commander’), ‘Bravo 2’, ‘Audi’, and ‘Mata Jefes’ (‘Chief Killer’), who has positioned himself as a highly relevant target for the governments of Mexico and the United States.
The research conducted by the US Department of State maintains that ‘El Jardinero’ controls a large number of methamphetamine laboratories in the central area of Jalisco and the south of Zacatecas.
Presumably, being one of the closest men to Oseguera Cervantes, he is in charge of various clandestine airstrips and supervises different routes for trafficking cocaine from Central America aboard articulated trucks and passenger buses.
The narcotics that the CJNG transports under the orders of ‘El Jardinero’ have as their destination multiple territories in the United States, including the states of Texas, Illinois, Washington, California, Georgia, and Virginia.

In July 2016, ‘El Jardinero’ was arrested in Nayarit for his participation in the ambush and murder of 15 state police officers from the Jalisco State Unique Force, which took place in April 2015.
According to the then prosecutor Eduardo Almaguer, ‘El Jardinero’ was involved both in the planning and execution of the attack.
He was confined in the Metropolitan Prison of Jalisco and at that time had at least seven arrest warrants against him, four for homicide and three for organized crime. However, he was released years later.
In August 2020, the District Court of Columbia issued charges against Flores Silva for conspiracy to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and heroin, as well as for the use and possession of firearms in connection with drug trafficking activities.
In this sense, the government agency responsible for the foreign policy of the US is offering up to five million dollars for any information leading to the arrest of ‘El Jardinero’ (‘The Gardener’), a higher amount than what the DEA, for example, is offering for Oscar Noé Medina González, alias ‘El Panu’, security chief of Los Chapitos.
