On the evening of January 20th, the Highway 100 that connects Hermosillo with Bahía de Kino in Sonora, was the scene of a violent confrontation that resulted in 12 killed sicarios.
According to the version of events shared by the General Prosecutor’s Office, the confrontation began when an armed group tried to rescue a young man who had been captured moments earlier.
This is about Carlos Humberto “N”, identified by authorities as the son of Jesús Humberto Limón López, also known as ‘El Chubeto’ or ‘El Cazador’, leader of the Los Cazadores cell and operator for Los Chapitos until his arrest in 2021.
A group of gunmen aboard different trucks opened fire against the ministerial agents with the intention of freeing the detainee, so the officers responded.

The reports from the Prosecutor’s Office indicate that seven members of the armed group managed to escape after the confrontation, while unofficial versions suggest that one of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán’s sons was at the site.
According to this narrative, pending confirmation from authorities, Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, also known as ‘El Alfredillo’, was part of the convoy that participated in the exchange of gunfire.
Allegedly, this individual – for whom the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) offers up to 10 million dollars – was traveling in one of the trucks that fled with the support of another vehicle that blocked the path of police units.
Those who shared such assumption point out that the van in which ‘El Chapo’’s son supposedly traveled did not seek to confront the ministerials during the rescue attempt, but rather focused on evading the operation.

However, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has not made any public statement confirming or denying the suggestion that ‘El Alfredillo’ has managed to flee from security forces.
Before the balance of this event was revealed, the Prosecutor’s Office denied that Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar was involved, in response to rumors that ‘El Chapito’ was there.
The intensity of the confrontation that the hitmen started in an attempt to free ‘El Chubeto’s son could be an indicator of the level of importance that Carlos Humberto “N” had within the criminal structure, despite the fact that the Prosecution only described him as a “member of a criminal cell”.
Due to these events, the Sonora State Prosecutor’s Office and security forces from the three levels of government are carrying out an intense operation in the western rural area of Hermosillo to locate and capture the seven attackers who escaped.
Los Cazadores is a criminal organization that operated as a branch of Los Chapitos in Sonora, but in November 2023 it was announced that they had started operating independently.
