The Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported on April 9, 2025, that it had opened an investigation following the discovery of 11 murdered men on the evening of April 8, 2025, in the community of Rancho Viejo, Tecoanapa municipality, in the Costa Chica region.
“Members of the Ministerial Investigative Police and Forensic Services carried out the initial investigations at the scene, as well as the collection of corresponding evidence. The FGE reaffirms its commitment to access to justice and the fight against impunity, in strict adherence to the law and with full respect for human rights,” the Guerrero Attorney General’s Office said in a brief statement.
According to local media reports, a criminal group allegedly led by Aniceto Gallardo Mora and another led by Benito Sánchez Millán exchanged gunfire in the municipality of the Costa Chica region of Guerrero, a region where violence has increased since the arrest of Vicente Gerardo Telefor, known as “La Garza,” in November 2024 in the state capital of Querétaro.
According to the Guerrero Federal Government (FGE), the boss was part of the Los Ardillos criminal group, which operated in the municipalities of Tecoanapa and Ayutla. Furthermore, Los Tlacos, another criminal organization with a presence in the area, was disputing their territory.
Local media also reported that after the confrontation—which is believed to have occurred around 7:00 p.m. on April 8, 2025, near the community of Chautipa—the attackers placed the eleven bodies in a row, while a burned-out pickup truck remained near the bodies.
On April 9, 2025, the Guerrero Prosecutor’s Office also reported that in the community of Puerto de las Flores, in the municipality of Teloloapan, in the northern region, an armed group attacked soldiers, who killed a civilian while repelling the attack.
According to the state law enforcement agency, the attackers were traveling in three trucks, one of them armored, and a motorcycle. Following the confrontation, four stolen vehicles, nine long-range weapons, 2,160 live rounds of ammunition, 81 magazines, and tactical equipment were seized.
