A group of diverse armed men appeared in a video in which they claim that there is a ceasefire in various points of Guerrero. This comes after a reported ceasefire on February 22nd, in which Los Tlacos and La Familia Michoacana were said to be involved, two groups involved in an armed confrontation that left several dead.
Although the message does not mention a specific group, it does indicate that “the gentlemen” accepted the agreement and that it must be respected.
People of Iguala, Cocula, and Huitzuco, one year of war has already ended, the lords made a truce and we respect their decision (…) government, do your job, we have no problems with you”, was part of the message of the armed individuals.
People appear in a wasteland surrounded by trees, in the images shared on social media you can see a large number of individuals wearing military-style clothing, with their faces covered and carrying long guns.
During their message, they admitted that the civilian population has been affected by the rivalry between criminal groups, which they referred to as “crossfire.”
“To all the villages that were displaced, return to your communities, make a life for yourselves, you were caught in the crossfire. Pure people from the mountains, pure people of Mr. Gavilan, pure people of Mr. 21,” exclaimed those involved in a recording shared on social media during Sunday, March 3rd.
Meanwhile, in another part of the video, the man speaking in front of the camera assures that he will kill the people he referred to as “grillosos,” apparently people involved in extortion and money transfer.
Regarding the end of the message, in which the armed men claim to be “people of Mr. Gavilan”, in September 2022 it was reported about the release of a man with that alias, although on that occasion he was identified as a former member of the Knights Templar and who may have been associated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). It is not known if this is the person the individuals are referring to.
On the other hand, Los Tlacos are also known as the Sierra Cartel. Meanwhile, “el 21” has been mentioned in other messages linked to this group.
On February 22, Father Filiberto Velázquez, director of the Center for Victims’ Rights of Violence “Minerva Bello,” confirmed the truce in which neither authorities nor members of the church intervened.
On that occasion, Filiberto Velázquez pointed out that the organizations agreed not to expand their territory. This was after an armed confrontation, allegedly between the mentioned cells, was registered on February 20, resulting in several deaths.
On said occasion, the Prosecutor’s Office of Guerrero stated that police officers and members of the Army went to the community of Las Tunas and upon arrival, they found the charred bodies of five individuals. It was also reported that an investigation was opened for the crime of aggravated homicide.
While on February 21st, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported during his morning press conference that as a result, there were at least 12 deaths after violent actions in San Miguel Totolapan.

“There has already been an operation in the region since yesterday. They are events that occurred in the mountains, in the hot land of Guerrero. It is believed, although information is still lacking, that it was a confrontation between gangs of criminals. So far, 12 deaths have been confirmed,” stated López Obrador from the National Palace.
