Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, has been considered a hero by the inhabitants of rural communities in the state of Sinaloa, especially in his hometown of Badiraguato, as well as in Culiacán. Since he became one of the most powerful figures, thanks to the profits from drug trafficking, he began to support the most vulnerable, while ensuring that his region remained peaceful.
That is why, after his second capture on February 22nd, 2014, many of his followers, around two thousand, took to the streets of Culiacán to demand his release, as if it were an injustice against a social fighter, causing astonishment to many people outside of Sinaloa.

The figure of Joaquin Guzman Loera, one of the most powerful drug traffickers on the planet, but in his native land, he is idolized even now that he has fallen into disgrace. There is so much fascination with ‘El Chapo’ that after his arrest in February 2014, almost two thousand of his followers dared to take to the streets to show their support, some wearing shirts with the slogan ‘El Chapo’, reads in the book ‘Welcome to Sinaloa’ by Diego Enrique Osorno.
As if the Sinaloa boss were a superhero, many people wore shirts with El Chapo’s face and even carried banners requesting his prompt release.

It was only 16 months, which was the duration of the Government of Enrique Peña Nieto’s pleasure, as on July 11, 2015, he carried out his second escape from the Altiplano prison in Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico.
The curious thing about his second escape was that it happened when Peña and 10 secretaries of his Government, including those of the Interior, National Defense and the Navy, were flying to Paris. This news ruined their agenda, while Guzmán was able to escape without any problems, through a tunnel built under the maximum security prison.
” ‘El Chapo’ left the Altiplano prison, whatever the circumstance may be, at the same time that President Enrique Peña Nieto and 10 secretaries of his government, including the ones from the Ministry of the Interior, the National Defense, and the Navy, were flying to Paris,” the journalist wrote.
Guzmán is the only boss who has managed to escape from the two most important prisons in Mexico, such as Puente Grande and El Altiplano.
